How it works
Pick a start date and an end date. The result shows the span in days, weeks, and approximate months.
When this question comes up
Rental periods, notice windows, project timelines and visa stays are almost always expressed as a number of days between two dates. The same arithmetic appears when you check a late fee on an invoice or work out how much of a warranty is left. Because the answer is a whole number of days, only two things change it: which dates you pick, and whether the end date should count.
Rules and limits
- The count is the number of whole days between the two dates — the same date on both sides returns 0.
- The order does not matter; the result is always positive.
- Weeks are days ÷ 7. Months are days ÷ 30.437, the average Gregorian month, so they are an approximation rather than calendar months.
- Dates are treated as calendar dates in your device's time zone, not as timestamps, so daylight saving never shifts the result.
Worked example
1 Jan 2026 → 1 Feb 2026 = 31 days · 4.43 weeks · 1.02 months
Checking the result by hand
Count the days left in the first month, add the full months in between, then add the days used in the last month. From 12 March to 9 June: 19 days remain in March (31 − 12), plus 30 in April, 31 in May, plus 9 in June — 89 days. A leap year adds one day after 29 February, which is why February 2028 has 29 days and February 2027 has 28.
FAQ
Are both dates included?
The span is the number of whole days between the dates. The same date returns 0.
Does the time zone matter?
Dates are treated as calendar dates in your local time zone, not as timestamps.
Why is the month figure not a whole number?
Months have different lengths, so the tool divides by the average month of 30.437 days. Use the days figure when you need an exact count.
